Trafigura sells Kenetic carbon platform to Context Labs and takes equity stake in buyer

Context Labs has acquired Agora (Europe) the Trafigura subsidiary that owns and operates Kinertic, its carbon intelligence platform in one of three transactions with the commodity trader. Separately, Trafigura has made a strategic investment in the industrial AI infrastructure company to support continued platform development and integration of Kinertic’s capabilities. Furthermore, the two have signed a multi-year master services and platform license agreement under which Trafigura can deploy the combined platform across it commodity trading desks.

Kinertic gives producers, traders and buyers a carbon intelligence layer that sits inside existing systems and links to trade capture systems to map flows, aggregate portfolios and generate regulatory and customer reports. Brough into the Context Labs data infrastructure, it will allow traders to see price, volume logistics and carbon metrics in a single environment.

With the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism in its definitive phase, default emissions values translate directly into cost on every in-scope cargo, while EU Methane Regulation’s shift from reporting to monitoring and verification turns methane intensity into a market-access prerequisite for gas, LNG and oil entering the bloc.
