US-based Captura has announced the first close of its USD 12.5mn Series B round of financing, which it will use to expand domestic manufacturing of its bipolar membrane electrodialysis platform for a range of resource-critical markets.
The company originally developed its electrodialysis platform to power its direct ocean capture (DOC) system, an engineered carbon removal solution that removes CO₂ from seawater for permanent storage or utilization. However, alongside its continued scale-up, its membranes and electrodialysis stacks are being commercialized across multiple industrial applications across resource-critical industries – from direct lithium extraction and industrial water treatment to long-duration energy storage and carbon removal.
Equinor Ventures led the round and existing investors Aramco Ventures, EDP Ventures, Eni Next, Freeflow Ventures, Hitachi Ventures, Japan Airlines & TransLink Innovation, Maersk Growth, mTerra Ventures and National Grid Partners also participated.
