ARR

About

An Afforestation, Reforestation and Regeneration project focuses on different aspects of forest recovery and management.

  1. Afforestation – Planting trees on land that has not been forested for a long period (usually several decades)
  2. Reforestation – Replanting trees in areas where forests have been depleted or degraded by natural causes (wildfires or human activities such as logging or agriculture).
  3. Regeneration – natural or assisted recovery of forests that have been degraded, such as protecting areas, removing invasive species and allowing natural processes to re-establish the native forest.

The benefits of an ARR project includes, climate change mitigation (trees sequester carbon dioxide), biodiversity conservation, water cycle regulation, soil conservation (trees help to prevent soil erosion) and community benefits.

According to ratings agency Sylvera, as of April 2022, over 52 million credits have been issued from ARR projects, making up ~3% of the total credits issued to date in the voluntary carbon markets (VCMs).Â
